During the first Gulf War a team  of SAS was captured. They were treated abominably by their captors, and at one point their leader, a sergeant, cried out to God to save him from his awful situation. He promised to attend church every week if only God would save him. Nothing happened immediately, and so he concluded that God did not exist.

The three Hebrew men we read about in the book of Daniel also faced a life threatening crisis (Dan. 3). They were told to bow down before a gold statue and worship it, or be thrown into a blazing furnace! They replied that they would never bow down to the image, and that God would save them, but even if He did not they would never bow down to any other god (vv.17-18). These men trusted God’s plan no matter what happened; He was not merely someone who could get them out of trouble. They trusted Him despite their terrible situation.

Sometimes we might think God is not answering our prayers the way we want Him to, but we need to learn that He always knows what is best for us, even if it may not look like it. We must trust Him and have the faith that He will never let us down; He is always faithful.

God guides us through this life and into His kingdom.
